Doug Hague Watercolours
A diverse collection of original paintings, mainly in watercolour (hence the website name). These range from Scottish landscapes, castles and harbours, through assorted African wildlife, to Japanese gardens and much more.

Latest Paintings:
January 2019: Two Zebras (W) added to my Africa Gallery. A new year and a new painting. This is another sourced from our South Africa safari trip, subtitled "does my b*m look big in this?".
November 2018: Lightning Tree (A) added to Miscellaneous Gallery. And now for something completely different! Atmospheric acrylic on canvas. I'd been thinking about doing something along these lines for a while. Glad I did.
November 2018: Three Cheetahs at Waterhole (W), has been added to my Africa Gallery. This is my second picture sourced from our 2018 South Africa safari holiday. It was amazing seeing these three brothers posing together at a waterhole in Karongwe Game Reserve, in Limpopo. Magical!
October 2018: Remember (A) added to Miscellaneous Gallery. I painted this acrylic on canvas painting as part of participation in the Ashby Poppy Trail, which includes 100 paintings to be displayed throughout Ashby de la Zouch, on the theme of remembrance as part of the 100 year Armistice anniversary.
September 2018: Cheetah Resting (P), has been added to my Africa Gallery. This is the first sourced from our 2018 South Africa Safari holiday, where we saw this majestic young male cheetah in the Karongwe Game Reserve, in Limpopo. I did this drawing with Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils and this is my first picture using these.
September 2018: It's been a while since my last update, 6 months in fact. I hope it was worth the wait! The long hot British summer had me doing a lot of outdoor stuff, instead of art. We also had a safari holiday in South Africa in June, which has provided me with enough subject matter to keep me going for years!
My latest painting, Leopard Stroll (W), has been added to my Africa Gallery. This is a revisit of a prior painting based on a Botswana Safari holiday. Preparing for this year's safari holiday got me in the mood, so I started it way back in April and have finally finished it. I also bought some Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils and had to have a play with them (see above), extending the delay in finishing this painting. But now it's done. Enjoy.

Puffins (W) has also been added to Miscellaneous Gallery. I actually completed this post card size painting in June, but I had to keep it under wraps until at least August, as it was entered into the Secret Art Basingstoke exhibition, in aid of Basingstoke NCT. Visit their website to see all of the art donated for a very worthy cause.
March 2018: Pied Kingfisher (W) added to Africa Gallery. These black and white versions, of their more colourful European cousins, live in Africa. I spotted these on a river safari in Chobe Safari Park, Botswana.
February 2018: Red Rose (A) added to Miscellaneous Gallery. Just for a change, I experimented with acrylics and structured gel on canvas to create a 3D effect.
February 2018: Miniature Flowers (W) added to Miscellaneous Gallery. I painted these for inclusion in a floral collage for the Ashby Art Club 2018 Easter Exhibition prize draw.
February 2018: Elephant Mud Bath (W) added to Africa Gallery. Another sighting at a mud hole in the Chobe Safari Park, Botswana. This young female was enjoying spraying mud over herself. Thankfully, we were out of range!
January 2018: Old Man of Storr, Isle of Skye (W) added to Scotland Gallery. We visited Skye way back in 2004 and this rock formation in Trotternish was a lasting memory. Haven't done a proper landscape for some time now, what with my "extended wildlife phase"!
Welcome to my website. Please note that this is NOT a business; I am purely a "hobby artist" who just likes to share.
In this website I have concentrated deliberately more on images than on words ("a picture is worth a thousand words"). I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I have enjoyed painting them.

The majority of my work is in watercolour (W), although I have included some acrylics (A) and pencil work (P).
This website will continue to evolve, as and when I complete more paintings. Watch this space.....
